Creating Brand Differentiation

By utilizing our deeply vetted, proprietary judging process which we call Sensory Attribute Quality Analysis, a panel of ChefsBest Certified Master Tasters identifies high quality and best-tasting foods resulting in several distinct awards. In each of these instances, due to the ability of the panel to quantify the sensory experience while following the Sensory Testing Methods guidelines created by ASTM International, any resulting ad claims are substantiated and usable in market. It is important to note that ChefsBest awards cannot be bought. Selection by an independent judging panel is the only way to procure an award endorsement by ChefsBest.

ChefsBest Best Taste Award

The Best Taste Award is bestowed upon only one national brand in each product category, signifying to both consumers and buyers that only one product has secured the distinction as best tasting. Judges evaluate only those national brands defined as top-selling by syndicated data and are readily available to the vast majority of consumers at groceries nationwide.

This award allows brands to assert powerful superiority claims over other leading competitors including "America's Best," "Best Tasting," and "Highest Quality."

ChefsBest Excellence Award

The Excellence Award is bestowed upon products that have over $1MM in annual sales volume and meet or surpass quality standards established by ChefsBest Master Tasters. After being judged or rated on their own merits, Excellence Award winners are brands that meet high benchmark standards within their respective product categories.

Brands with this distinction may identify themselves to consumers with claims including “Endorsed by Professional Chefs,” “Award-Winning Taste,” and “Highly Rated.”

ChefsBest Quality in Craft Award

The Quality in Craft Award is presented to products that have under $1MM in annual sales volume and meet or exceed quality standards established by ChefsBest Master Tasters. After being judged or rated on their own merits, Quality in Craft Award winners are brands that meet high benchmark standards within their respective product categories.

Brands with this distinction may identify themselves to consumers with claims including “Endorsed by Professional Chefs,” “Award-Winning Taste,” and “Highly Rated.”

ChefsBest Chef Tested Award

The Chef Tested Award is conferred to store brand products that surpass quality standards established by ChefsBest Master Tasters. After being judged and rated on their own merits, Chef Tested Award winners are brands that meet benchmark standards within their respective product categories.

Brands identified with this distinction may identify themselves to consumers with claims including "Endorsed by Professional Chefs," "Award-Winning Taste," "Highly Ranked."

Award Eligibility

All products judged by ChefsBest are held to the high standards set by our Certified Master Tasters®, ensuring that every product in market entrusted with a ChefsBest award is of excellent quality. Not all products that are tested will be eligible for an endorsement by ChefsBest.

  • The Best Taste Award is a measure of superiority over other products in a category. Therefore, only one national brand will be eligible for and license this award per product category.

Award Licensing Process

  1. Introductory Call
On this brief phone call we will explain our evaluation process and descriptive analysis in further detail, and make sure our services align with your marketing and PR goals.
  2. Test Design
You will work with our Sensory Director to ensure that our evaluation is designed to meet the agreed upon objectives. This includes determining competitors for a comparative analysis, if necessary. Additionally, a Statement of Work will be signed and an evaluation fee of $3,000 will be collected for the evaluation by our Certified Master Tasters® and a results presentation. This initial investment may be credited to future licensing fees if your product qualifies for an award.*
  3. Results Presentation
After the independent evaluation is complete, our sensory director will present the results. In addition to explaining your eligibility for a ChefsBest award, the presentation includes detailed descriptive analysis with clear, carefully defined characteristics. We recommend members of your R&D teams participate at this stage. This results presentation is exclusive to your company and will not be shared with any competitors included in the evaluation.
  4. Licensing
Should your product qualify for one of ChefsBest’s coveted awards, you will have the option to license the award for use on-pack, in marketing materials, and in trade communications. Annual license fees for the Best Taste Award start at $14,400 and depend on your product’s annual sales volume; annual license fees for the Excellence Award start at $12,000 and depend on your product’s annual sales volume; and annual license fees for the Quality in Craft Award start at $3,000 and depend on whether your product is signed under a collateral-only or all-inclusive license.
  5. Award Activation
Once a licensing agreement is completed, ChefsBest will assist in incorporating the award into your marketing mix. ChefsBest will support you through our own communication efforts via social media, email and public relations.
